Community awareness, sensitization program on NIPUN Bharat, inclusive education in Kohima

The District Mission Authority (DMA) Samagra Shiksha Kohima under the aegis of Nagaland Education Mission Society organized a community awareness & sensitization programme on NIPUN Bharat, Inclusive Education, Vocational Education and Out of School (RTE 2009) at AMK Building, Kohima on January 31.
Speaking at the programme, Kohima Deputy Commissioner, Gregory Thejawelie and chairman DMA, Samagra Shiksha Kohima called upon the stakeholders to come forward and put concerted efforts for holistic growth of education in the state. “We want to see a progressive level of quality education,” he said and called upon the stakeholders to implement the various initiatives and systems in a sincere manner.
He asserted that a lot of efforts have been put in place for improving quality of education in the state.
We still have a long way to go in improving the system, he said and urged upon the parents, teachers and community to play a constructive role to embark progressive education in the state.
Also expressing concern over the high drop-out rate, he stressed on the need to work out appropriate mechanism to bring them back to school.
‘Nagaland will do everything possible to achieve NIPUN Bharat’s target
Kelhikha Kenye, Deputy Mission director Samagra Shikha Nagaland said that NIPUN Bharat was launched nationwide in 2011 in line with National Education Policy 2020.
In Nagaland, it was launched by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio last year.
He said NIPUN Bharat aim to ensure that every child in the country necessarily attains foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) by 2026-27.
The Ministry of Education has launched a National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat), he said.
To achieve the target of NIPUN Bharat, Nagaland will do everything possible, he said.
Presently, the government school in Nagaland shows poor performance in basic language, literacy and numeracy skills.
With this in mind, community awareness and sensitization has been organized to disseminate correct information to the public.
Kenye explained that NIPUN Bharat aims to cover the learning needs of children in the age group of 3 to 9 years and challenged the stakeholders to focus on every child for developing basic language, literacy and numeracy skills.
Kenye said that a successful Mission to improve foundational learning of all children in the country cannot be envisaged without the active role played by several instructors, teachers, parents, community and local bodies.
Each stakeholder plays a valuable role in the Mission, he said.
He said that Samagra Shiksha Nagaland has already carried out the basic line survey, covering around 10,000 students and the assessment report will be published soon.
Later, Sesulu, State Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland spoke on “Inclusive Education,” Imdangjungla Jamir, State coordinator, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland on “Vocational Education” while Liyalo Apon, deputy mission director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland talked on “Out of school and RTE 2009.
The programme was chaired by Peteneilhou, Project Assistant, DMA, Samagra Shiksha, Kohima while Thongsenlo, Assistant District Coordinator, DMA, Samagra Shiksha Kohima delivered welcome e address. Neivikhono, Project Assistant, DMA Samagra Shiksha Kohima proposed vote of thanks.
