DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 9 (MExN): In view of recent assessments by road safety and geotechnical experts indicating highly fragile slope conditions, the movement of Multi-Axle Vehicles (MAVs) along the Tsiedukhru stretch of National Highway-29 has been restricted and will be regulated with immediate effect until conditions stabilize.
According to the traffic advisory, movement of MAVs will be permitted only during daylight hours between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, and in small, regulated intervals under the direct supervision of the Traffic Police. The maximum speed limit for MAVs in this section has been fixed at 20 km/h.
All vehicles have been directed to maintain adequate spacing between one another to minimize cumulative ground vibration. Overloaded multi-axle trucks have been strictly prohibited from using the Tsiedukhru stretch, and axle loads and payloads will be capped below legal limits, with preference given to lighter multi-axle categories.
The advisory further stated that the NHIDCL and the Transport Department will assist Traffic Police in identifying and restricting all overloaded vehicles. “No MAV shall be allowed passage through the Tsiedukhru stretch weighing more than 30 Tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW),” it said.
Additionally, the NHIDCL has been instructed to place sufficient machinery near the affected stretches, along with operators and support staff, to remove any blockages caused by vehicle breakdowns or landslides. Traffic movement will be immediately suspended if on-site officials detect any signs of slope distress or fresh movements.
“All drivers using the Tsiedukhru stretch of NH-29 are advised to exercise caution and to be alert for debris or sudden rockfall,” the advisory stated, while urging MAV operators to cooperate fully with ground officials enforcing the safety measures.
