Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): With the rest of the country Nagaland State Consumer Helpline is fully functioning from June 1, 2012 though the helpline was officially launched on December 24, 2011. This is a central project and it is the initiative of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India, New Delhi to create awareness among masses and help the common man to know their rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
A press release issued by NVCO President Kezhokhoto Savi said that the Government of Nagaland particularly the department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection in partnership with Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) is running the State Consumer Helpline.
The Nagaland State Consumer Helpline situated at Old Assembly Secretariat, Kohima shall provide counseling on all products and services through a Toll Free telephone No. 1800-345-3701 (BSNL). A citizen can call and seek information, advice or guidance for his day to day consumer problems. The main purpose for Toll Free Helpline No. 1800-345-3701 is for public utility to make use of this Helpline as an alternate consumer grievances redressal mechanism in solving consumer problems in the state of Nagaland. And in using the Toll Free Number the call charges would go to the helpline and not to the one who is calling. It is also necessary that any citizen making a call through the Toll Free Number may introduce herself/himself and be specific in their query/problem. Complaints have been received from citizens travelling by city buses about bus conductors not returning Rs. 5 change in the pretext of having no change and hence charging double of actual fare.
