Calls for swift action as orgs condemn alleged sexual assault at Dimapur Hospital

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 26 (MExN): Several organizations have expressed strong condemnation following the alleged sexual assault of a nursing student at District Hospital Dimapur on February 24, 2025. One person has been detained by the Dimapur Police in connection with the incident.

DCCD: The District Congress Committee Dimapur voiced its outrage, describing the incident as a violation of women’s safety and dignity, particularly within a healthcare institution. 

The DCCD outlined key demands which it said was non-negotiable. It called for the immediate arrest of those involved, swift legal proceedings, and the strictest punishment for the accused, with no provision for bail. The DCCD also raised concerns about security lapses at the hospital and is demanding enhanced measures, including 24/7 surveillance, increased security personnel, and mandatory background checks for staff. It urged a transparent investigation into the security failures and accountability for negligent authorities. Additionally, the DCCD stressed the need for comprehensive support for the victim, including medical, psychological, and legal assistance, and has called for ongoing support for the victim’s family.

NPMCC: The Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee also condemned the assault, calling it an unacceptable act within a place meant for care and safety. It urged law enforcement to take prompt action and appealed for heightened security protocols in public institutions to prevent such incidents.

UANMA: The Unemployed Auxiliary Nursing Midwife Association of Nagaland expressed its deep concern over the incident, which occurred in the Dental OPD room of the hospital. The association emphasized its commitment to ensuring a safe workplace for all and urged the authorities to take immediate action against the perpetrator. The UANMA also called for the implementation of stricter security measures and support for affected individuals.

WTAWU: The Western Tizu Area Welfare Union expressed shock at the incident, stressing that the actions of the accused were not only a breach of hospital rules but also an affront to the victim's dignity. The union called for a swift investigation and urged the public and civil society to openly condemn such acts to prevent future occurrences.

SKK: The All Sümi Students' Union condemned the assault as a glaring indication of the vulnerabilities within the system and called for stringent measures to ensure women’s safety. The SKK pledged support to the victim and demanded immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

WSH: The Western Sumi Hoho said it will not remain a mute spectator whenever the rights and dignity of our sister (s) are defiled in any manner. Condemning the despicable and heinous crime, the WSH urged the law enforcing agencies to serve befitting punishment to the culprit without delay as such heinous crime has no place in our society.

KWWU & KVWA: Additionally, the Kutsapo Women Welfare Union Phek Town and Kutsapo Village Women Association also expressed strong condemnation of the act, describing the incident as both physically and mentally traumatic for the victim. The association urged authorities to deliver an exemplary punishment to prevent similar occurrences.

GBUD: The GB Union Dimapur (Sadar) called for strict legal action against the perpetrator and urged law enforcement to investigate possible accomplices. It also demanded the immediate termination of the accused's employment as a deterrent to similar crimes. The union lauded the police for quickly arresting the suspect and commended the DHD Medical Superintendent for reporting the incident to higher authorities.
