Kohima, May 3 (MExN): The Chokri Chakhesang Literature Board (CCLB) conducted its annual session at Mt Sinai Higher Secondary School, Kohima on May 3.

CCLB Chairman, Ariyi Neinu said the main objective of the board is to bring out a translation of the English Bible, hymnals, dictionaries, books, etc into Chokri for all the Chokri speaking areas of Chakhesang. “In this regard, the board is trying to incorporate and accommodate words from areas that speak Chokri. This is because language differs from area to area,” he said and requested the general public “not to misunderstand or hinder the development of language,” the board stated in a press release.

It may be mentioned that Chokri is one of three major languages spoken by the Chakhesang Naga of Phek district.

Convenor Core Committee, CCLB, Zacilhü R Vadeo said, “there was not much language prior to introducing alphabets and formal education. But now, many new words have been added which calls for further translation. Therefore, it will take time to translate it.”

Gracing the occasion as a key speaker, MLA Dr Chotisuh Sazo said that Chokri language is very rich and it differs from village to village and area to area. Yet, it is our wealth and we should promote it.

He suggested that the board improvise words that are available and preserve them instead of introducing new words.

This will help in promoting the language better. He further advised the board to have seminars with stakeholders and approve new words before introducing them formally.

Chairman Association of Nagaland Literature Board and Kuzha Chakhesang Literature Board, Dr Distolo, and Convenor, Advisory Board of CCLB, Zhovehü Lohe also addressed the gathering. Chakhesang Culture Research Institute (CCRI) presented folk songs.
