CDPO Kohima Urban celebrates Poshan Maah 2026

As part of Poshan Maah 2026 celebration under the Kohima (Urban) ICDS Project, the office of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Kohima Urban, under the Social Welfare Department, Nagaland, organised a “Hamari Anganwadi Hamari Jimmedari–Community Meeting” at Midland Community Hall, Kohima, on September 26.

It was held under the theme “My Anganwadi My Responsibility.”

Addressing the gathering, Menuokholie Kire, Chairman of Midland Council, Kohima, called upon the community to take advantage of the schemes and gain maximum benefits.

CDPO Reyivolu Kezo highlighted the various schemes under Mision Shaksam Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0 and Mission Shakti - Palna, PMMVY.

She said that supplementary nutrition programme cover the children of 6 months to 6 years, Pregnant Women  and Lactating Mothers and  Adolescent Girls in the age group 14 to 18 years of age.

Stating that the purpose is to address malnutrition as nutrition play as the most effective entry point for physical and intellectual growth and development.

Optimal and appropriate nutrition is essential for women and children to survive, thrive and bridge the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition and poor health of the community, Kezo said.

The Early Childhood Stimulation (ECS) programme covers children below 3 years of age while Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) is for children 3- 6 years of age.

“Over 85% of brain development occurs by the age 6 years. This indicates the critical importance of appropriate nutrition, responsive care and stimulation in a child’s early years to promote sustained and healthy brain development and growth,” she said.

It lays foundation for lifelong well being and overall growth and development across all domians – physical, cognitive, socio- emotional, aesthetic, language, she added.

Healthy mother and child
Kezo stated that the department provides awareness on the importance of a healthy mother and Child, Adolescent Girls through home visitations, community based events, Urban Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day, Jan Andolan movements etc

It also conducts immmunization, health check up and referral service with medical department.

She encouraged mothers of children 6 months to 6 years to join workforce and to improve economic development by safely keeping their children in the creche day care centre.

The schemes are delivered at Anganwadi Centre to the beneficiaries by Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers.

Further, she sought the cooperation of the community towards the successful implementation of the various schemes.

The programme witnessed distribution of eggs to adolescent girls for nutritional support under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) by District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Kohima.

Earlier, Anino Peseyie, Senior Supervisor highlighted the activities of ECS and ECCE while Sohile Tep, District Coordinator talked on nutrition for adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers.

Anganwadi children presented a special number.

The programme was chaired by Nusa Thisa, senior Supervisor while Kedichunuo, AWH invoked God’s blessings. Vote of thanks was proposed by Romilla, AWW.

The programme was followed by display of locally available vegetables, tasting station, Aadhaar enrolment and updation, PMMVY spot registration, activation of Anganwadi Management Committee and Grow monitoring station.

Kekhrieselhou (Neiu) Metha, councilor of Midland ward and other leaders of the colony also present at the programme.
