Ceasefire with NSCN-K extended

Dimapur, April 29 (NNN): The ceasefire between the government of India and the Khaplang group of the NSCN has been extended from today for a period of one more year. In the year 2001, a ceasefire agreement between the two parties entered for the first time. Ever since, it has been extended for a period of one year. However, though the ceasefire term has been engaged between New Delhi and the NSCN-K, not a single formal dialogue regarding the Naga political issue has been held between the two parties. Meanwhile, the government of Nagaland has welcomed the extension of ceasefire between the government of India and the NSCN-K. In a statement issued to Newmai News Network tonight by Abu Metha, press secretary to Nagaland Chief Minister said, "The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government and the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, welcome the extension of ceasefire between the Government of India and the NSCN (K) which has been extended for a period of one year”.  The statement said that the DAN Government reiterates its commitment to play the role of active facilitator in the ongoing peace process and takes this opportunity to once again appeal to the negotiating parties to expedite the peace talks.  The DAN Government also appeals to all sections of the people and the underground groups to reconcile and work towards unity, understanding and oneness of Naga society.
