CEO Nagaland appeals for greater participation in electoral process on National Voters’ Day
Kohima, January 24 (MExN): Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland Abhijit Sinha on Sunday appealed to all concerned to rededicate towards pursuing the objective of greater participation in the electoral process for an even stronger democracy.
January 25 is observed as National Voters’ Day to mark the foundation of the Election Commission of India on January 25, 1950.
On the occasion, the CEO said that the 11th National Voters’ Day is being celebrated in Nagaland also along with the rest of the country in the State capital Kohima, all the district HQs, Sub-Divisions and all the polling stations.
“The National Voters’ Day celebrates the right to vote and the vibrant and beautiful democracy of ours,” the CEO stated in his message.
The Election Department throughout the State is organizing programmes for celebration of the Day which also includes facilitation of newly registered voters and recognizing officials who have rendered exemplary service during election or management of electoral roll, he informed.
The theme of the 11th National Voters’ Day is ‘Making our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed’. Sinha informed that the constitution of India guarantees the right to all its citizens who are 18 years and above to be registered in the electoral roll and confer them the right to vote.
He appealed to all the eligible citizens to exercise their right without fear, intimidation and inducement. The CEO also requested to citizens be always vigilant against any kind of electoral malpractices, be fully literate about the electoral processes so as to be able to make informed decisions during the elections and to further follow all the current health safety protocols to ensure safe elections.
