Kohima, July 6 (MExN): Minister of Higher & Technical Education Temjen Imna Along formally inaugurated the Kohima College annex administrative building (upgradation) funded under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) Government of India, Ministry of human resource development (MHRD), Department of Higher Education and Nagaland Government on July 5.
The inaugural programme was graced by Director, higher Education, Kuholi Chishi and Joint Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Rongsenrenla Imchen, Principal, Dr. Watijungshi, faculty and staff of Kohima College, Kohima.
In his speech, the Minister gave a brief history of RUSA and how the Central scheme is transforming the face of higher education all over the country. He stressed that the Center is keenly following the progress of Higher Education in the North East and Nagaland in particular. He also mentioned that more assistance will be allotted in the 2nd phase under the RUSA project.
Kohima College Rusa Cell in a press release stated that the programme who was chaired by the Director of Higher Education, Kuholi Chishi gave a brief technical report of the building constructed under RUSA scheme.
51st Freshers’ Day held
The Minister also graced the 51st Freshers’ Day of Kohima College on July 5 as the guest speaker. During the event, induction of the new team members for the Kohima College Students Union (KCSU) was also held where Vimeyiekho Vitso, outgoing General Secretary and Menom Taiwangshu, incoming General Secretary delivered speeches. Vimeyiekho also received the Meritorious Award and Scholar’s Badge, and the Alumni Association Award of Rs. 10,000 cash each.
A press release issued by Kohima College Mass Media Cell, stated that Kohima College, Principal Watijungshi Jamir delivered the welcome address. An invocation prayer was pronounced by Moanungla Kevichusa, Assoc. Prof & HoD, English Dept, while words of acceptance were delivered by Jehu and Khriephrienuo. The Felicitation of Excellence was delivered by Keneilesa Neikha, Assoc. Prof and HoD, History Dept & President KCTA, and a special number by Selücülü.
The declaration of Mr & Mrs Freshers was also held where Edwin Prakash Thapa was awarded Mr. Fresher and Keneiseno as Miss Fresher, and the formal session of the programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Veyevo Dawhuo.
