Kohima, October 1 (MExN): The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland, has informed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced measures to facilitate electors during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls.
As part of the measures, in cases where notices have been issued to persons whose details are unmapped or have logical discrepancies, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit their homes to collect the required documents.
The documents will subsequently be uploaded on ECINET for consideration by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).
As per the State DIPR, the measured announced further stated that such persons will not be required to visit the ERO/AERO office for a hearing.
A hearing will be required only in exceptional cases, as decided by the EROs/AEROs, and preferably through online mode and wherever necessary, an adult member of the family may be authorised by the elector to attend the hearing on their behalf, it added.
The Commission has also directed District Election Officers (DEOs) to set up adequate Help Desks and hold Special Camps, as required, to assist people living in night shelters, labourers, poor and homeless persons, and others who may require assistance during the SIR.
District-wise Help Desk contact numbers are available on the CEO Nagaland website.
In States and Union Territories where the SIR has already been completed, a special drive will be conducted for the enrolment of left-out electors and young or first-time eligible electors under the continuous updation of electoral rolls.
The Commission has further clarified that the Declaration Form attached with Form 6 will be used only during the SIR period. During the non-SIR period, the forms prescribed under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 will be used.
Nagaland published its draft electoral roll on September 20 with 12,06,457 electors, comprising 11,99,456 general electors and 7,001 service electors.
However, a total of 1,57,752 electors were designated under the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) categories from the pre-SIR total of 13,57,208 electors.
Addressing a press conference the following day, State Additional CEO Awa Lorin informed that nearly five lakh electors were expected to receive notices (https://www.morungexpress.com/nagaland-now-the-test-of-sir-draft-roll) over discrepancies in the mapping of their details with the 2005 electoral roll.
CEO Nagaland Bhagyashree Banayat, however, informed that electors whose names were not included in the draft roll or who were unable to submit enumeration forms could file Claims and Objections until October 20.
“Genuine electors can still be added back to the electoral rolls during the claims and objections period (20.09.2026 to 20.10.2026) using Form-6 along with the prescribed Declaration Form,” the CEO had stated.
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 22, 2026.
