Chessore Area GB’s Federation conducts general session

Tuensang, December 13 (MExN): The Chessore Area GB’s Federation 31st general session was held at Kephore village, Shamator Sub-Division, Tuensang District on December 11 with MLA & Advisor to IPR, SCERT & VG, Toshi Wungtung as the special guest. 

A press release from the PS to Advisor Toshi Wungtung stated that the special guest exhorted the gathering on the origins and the role of the village elders (Gaon-Buras) since the time of the British rule, which is also apparently based in the roots the federal system of the indigenous Naga Political System and Self Governance since ancient times in the context of the Nagas.

He emphasised on the main role of the GBs along with the DBs (Dobashas) as agents for the interpretation and implementation of the modern system of administration which came during the British rule and post independent Republic of India, where political and administrative autonomy in regard to customary laws, norms and tradition, rights of landed properties and its resources are constitutionally enshrined and recognised under Article 371 (A) of the Indian Constitution, which speaks for the rights of the Naga People and the State of Nagaland.     

He further encouraged discipline and sincerity of the village elders as guardians of the Village Councils for the future of the citizens in terms of progress and development and a better future. 

The present PDA government primarily focuses on giving priority on equal growth and participation of both urban and rural areas covering every corner of the State. He called upon the citizens on behalf of the State Government for total peace, unity and full cooperation which are essential for achieving these objectives.
