Chingwang Konyak re-elected as NDPP president

Chingwang Konyak has been re-elected as the president of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) for the tenure 2021-2024.

Announcing this during the 4th general convention of the NDPP, H Chuba Chang, NDPP Senior Vice President & MLA in election committee report also announced that Abu Metha and John Murry has also been re-elected as secretary general and treasurer respectively.

He informed that other office bearers will be notified soon.

In his presidential address, NDPP president Chingwang Konyak thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for taking initiative towards the construction of NDPP office building in Kohima, which was inaugurated by the CM today.

‘NDPP committed to stable, strong leadership’

Chingwang said that NDPP was formed on May 17, 2017, in response to the people's desire for a political party that will carry the voice and aspirations of the masses and respond to a need for change in the system of governance and perspectives to development.

He said that the party has committed to stable, strong leadership and policies that will change the destiny of the state in a positive manner.

He informed that the party strength in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) has increased from 18 members to 21 with the joining of G Kaito Aye from JDU and Imnatiba Jamir and Khumo from NPP. Independent MLA Tongpang Ozukum has been admitted as an associate member of the NDPP legislators party. 

Another independent MLA Yangseo had also applied for the Associate membership of the NDPP Legislators Party but his request is yet to be considered, he said.

Unresolved political issue creating hurdles on all fronts

NDPP president said that the unresolved political issue has created hurdles on all fronts, particularly on the economy and all-round progress of Nagaland. “Without the prevalence of just peace, no aspect of society can make progress. The political imbroglio needs to be resolved at the earliest possible, so that all round development of the state can place without limitations,” he said.

He said that as assured by NDPP in its 2018 election manifesto, the PDA government under the chief minister Neiphiu Rio has been proactive and has been working to strengthen the ongoing peace process and the role of active facilitator to bring early solution. “The formation of the United Democratic Alliance (Opposition less government) recently is to work with one voice as an active facilitator to urge the negotiating parties to bring early solution. I hope the negotiating parties would not ignore the cry of the people for early solution,” he said.
 
‘Nagaland is in dire need of good governance’

Touching on ‘Transparency and good governance,’ Chingwang said that Nagaland is in dire need of good governance especially relating to transparency and accountability in government. “To usher transparency in governance, to battle corruption is also one of the objectives of the party in our party constitution. I feel that serious initiatives and efforts are needed to achieve transparency and good governance,” he said. “We are going to the Assembly poll sometime in the first part of 2023. As a ruling party, we will have both advantages and disadvantages. An anti-incumbency may work against us,” he said and called upon the party men and women to work tirelessly to strengthen the party.

Vikali A Zhimomi, president NDPP women organization, Kelhouneizo Yhome, president, NDPP youth organization and Abu Metha, NDPP secretary general gave their respective reports.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by NDPP working president A. Nyamnyei Konyak. The programme was chaired by Alemtemshi Jamir, working president  while vote of thanks was proposed by Charlie Sekhose, senior Vice President NDPP.

‘We should not betray one another’: Rio

CM Neiphiu Rio challenged the party men and women not betray one another the trust the party gained. “We should not betray one another. We should not betray the blessings we received from Almighty,” Rio said in his address at the convention.

He thanked the party men and women for their unconditional support to his leadership through thick and thin, in good time and in bad time. He also thanked alliance partner BJP.

“We all must give our commitment. We have to work together,” he said.

Rio called upon the party men and women to live upto the motto of the party “Deeds not words,” adding that all must contribute for the growth of the party.

He urged the party workers to work hard and strengthen the party with collective responsibility.

Rio also stressed on the need to hold seminar and workshop so as to enable the party men and women to get acquainted themselves with the party policies and programmes of the government.

Call for stability within NDPP camp

G Kaito Aye, minister agriculture and co-operation stressed on the need to have stability within the party to bring all round development.

He also urged the party men and women to stand together, and at the same time to be more dedicated and stronger.

MP (Lok Sabha) Tokheho Yepthomi called upon the party men and women to not be complacent with whatever had been accomplished so far but continue to put head together and strengthen the leadership of Neiphiu Rio. He also challenged the party to give their time to reach out to the people at the grassroots. “Our party will return to power. Let us carry forward the unfinished task and vision,” said Mhathung Yanthan, advisor horticulture & border affairs, Nagaland.

Touching on the slogan “Change is coming,” NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer said “if we want to bring change, it must start with us.” He challenged the party men and women to contribute and participate in whatever capacity and work in unison to bring change.
