A documentary film chronicling the works of Rev Dr K Imotemjen Aier was released today in Dimapur at a programme held at the Covenant Baptist Church, Nagaland Missions Movement (NMM). Ninety years old Rev Aier, now retired, had a storied career as a missionary, which took him to the USA on the invitation of the American Baptist Foreign Mission society and back to India.

The documentary titled— ‘On the Lord’s work in east India’ was produced by the NMM in collaboration Highland Dawn Media and funded by the BIM.

“Today, we are celebrating the calling, the life of a man of God, it's an important day,” stated Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho, who launched the film. He described Rev Aier as a “man of God,” one who “people like us and also the younger generation today can look up to and even in the future days to come.” According to him, Rev Aier’s qualities were such that he was trusted and entrusted with the responsibility of working in eastern India.

While expressing happiness at having to celebrate a life “when the person is still active and still in our midst,” he added that the greater and ultimate celebration is when “God puts a crown on your head and say thou faithful servant of mine.”

“The beginning of the church, unlike any other thing, went through a very difficult time. The first Christians faced plenty of persecution. They were driven away from their homes, villages and underwent untold misery and sufferings but stood strong.  That strength has been passed on to leaders like Rev Dr Imotemjen Aier,” Rev Keyho said.

Rev Aier began his career with the Ao Baptist Churches Council (ABAM) to move on to work with the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI) of which he was the Associate General Secretary and later the General Secretary. After 21 years with the CBCNEI, he was invited by the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society to the USA as missionary from northeast India. Three years later, in 1998, he was sent back as their missionary to eastern India.

After working there for three years, he was again send back as their missionary to east India (Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar) in 1998.

According to Rev Andrew Semp, Director, NMM, Rev Aier affected a lot of change, during his 11-year work in eastern India, not only with the church but also in the educational and social sphere of the people there.

“After that he was the Power of Attorney for the International Ministries American Baptist for nearly 18 to 20 years. He retired in 2018,” he added.

A 20 minute long promo of the one-hour long documentary was also screened at the programme. It was informed that the film will be broadcast on Christian TV channel and on internet streaming platforms.
