The School Management Committee, Chuchuyimlang, celebrated Teachers’ Day on September 5 at Government Middle School (GMS) Longzüng, which also witnessed the presentation of the 5th Immakmangyang Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The award, instituted in 2015 by the family members of late Immakmangyang, is conferred once every three years to honor excellence in teaching among the three schools of Chuchuyimlang village. This year marked the fifth presentation of the award.
Delivering the award presentation address, L. Bendangsangla, retired Joint Director of School Education, emphasized that a teacher’s true excellence is not measured by awards or certificates but by the impact they leave on their students. “The patience to explain, the wisdom to guide, and the vision to inspire — these are the qualities that make teaching truly great,” she said, while highlighting the multiple roles teachers play as mentors, counsellors, motivators, and parental figures.
This year’s award was conferred upon Imtimongba, Teacher-in-Charge of Government Primary School (GPS) Yimpang. In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to the family of late Immakmangyang for sponsoring the award and acknowledged the collective role of teachers, students, parents, and the wider community in the achievement. “I am receiving this award in all their names,” he said, expressing hope that the recognition would motivate teachers of Chuchuyimlang and help the village advance in the field of education.
Speaking on behalf of the sponsoring family, Bendangmenla, retired Deputy Director, shared that her late father Immakmangyang served as a teacher in the village from 1941 to 1978 and was remembered as an all-round educator dedicated to uplifting his community. While congratulating the awardee, she urged that the award be taken not just as an honor but also as an encouragement to strive for greater contributions in education.
