Rio expresses desire to witness her match in London

The Chakhesang Baptist Church located here at Kitsubozou and Minister’s Hill today prayed for the success of ace archer Chekrovolü Swüro, who qualified for the forthcoming London Olympics Games 2012 in the field of archery. Chekrovolü Swüro is the 2nd Naga Olympian after legendry footballer Dr. Talimeren Ao who captained Indian Football Team during the 1948 London Olympics.
Swüro will be leaving the country for the London Olympic Games by July 14 as the Games is scheduled for July 27 till August 12. Earlier, Swuro requested everyone to pray for her to bring laurel and fame to the community. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in one of the official function in Kohima recently expressed happiness over the qualification of Chekrovolü Swüro for the Olympics Games, adding that he also wishes to personally go there and witness her match.
Swüro hails from Dzülha village of Phek district. Presently, she is employed as ASI in Nagaland Police.
Since her childhood Swüro was passionate about archery and was encouraged to take up the sport by her elder sister Vesüzolü, who was a prominent archer herself. Swuro started her career as an archer at the tender age of 16. Since then, there was no stopping as she shot her way to victory from one championship to another.
Her first victory came at the Senior National Archery Championship, Rajasthan in 1996, where she walked away with the Silver medal in the individual category. In 1999, she clinched Gold at the 21st Junior National Archery Championship, Andhra Pradesh. This was followed by another Gold medal at the 5th National Games. Later, in 2001, Swüro clinched Gold medals in succession at the 1st Jharkhand State Archery Gold Championship and the 6th National Games at Punjab.
Apart from feats at the national level, Swüro excelled at the international level too. In 1999, she won a Silver medal at the 1st Asian Archery Circuit Meet. In 2000, she performed well and won a Silver medal for her team at the 3rd Asian Archery Circuit Meet. Seeing her potential to become an Olympic medal winner, Mittal Champion Trust (MCT) provided her with everything that she needs to become the best archer in the world. Source said MCT provided her with access to training facilities and coaches to enable her to further improve her prowess and techniques. Subsequently, she won medals in various competitions.
In 2006, she participated at the 2nd Commonwealth Archery Championship where her team bagged the Gold. At the World Cup in Dover, England her team finished with a Bronze and her World Ranking was pushed to No.6. At the 2007 World Cup she bagged 3 bronze medals, and earned her place among the best in the world. Her hard work and achievements are an inspiration to many struggling athletes across the country, source said. She dreams of bringing glory to India by winning the gold in Olympic Games, source said.
