Noklak district conducted two-day training programme on “horticulture avenues for sustainable income” on October 21 and 22.
The objective of the programme was to create awareness on horticulture avenues for income generation as well as to promote onion cultivation in the region. It was well attended by farmers and representatives from various self help groups making a total attendance of 100 participants. Technical staffs of the Institute provided trainings on production technology of selected crops and hands on training on processing and value addition such as guava squash, green chilli pickle, jackfruit chips and ginger candy.
The institute also delivered training and awareness on horticulture aspects during one day training programme on ‘vegetable cultivation, food processing and marketing’ which was organized by Pathfinder, District Executive Force Mokokchung in association with Mokokchung Police Family Welfare on October 23.
During the programmes, institute distributed improved varieties of onion seeds which are suitable for hilly region. The onion will be grown at farmers’ field as a part of demonstration programme as well as to promote onion cultivation in the region.
