CIHSR Hospital's Pediatric ICU achieves Level 3 accreditation

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, JANUARY 4 (MExN): In a significant milestone for pediatric healthcare, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at CIHSR Hospital in Chümoukedima has been awarded Level 3 accreditation by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics Intensive Care Chapter (IAP-ICC) as of January 2.

This prestigious recognition follows a thorough inspection by IAP-ICC representatives in May 2024 and the subsequent approval by the accreditation council. The IAP-ICC, a branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, is dedicated to advancing pediatric critical care standards across the country.

Level 3 accreditation positions the CIHSR PICU among the top pediatric intensive care units in India. This level of accreditation signifies that the unit is equipped to provide advanced, comprehensive care to critically ill children, including those with complex medical, surgical, and trauma conditions. The facility is staffed with specialized professionals and boasts the latest medical technologies to manage the most severe pediatric cases. With this new achievement, CIHSR joins an exclusive group of 59 Level 3 PICUs in India and stands out as the only such accredited unit in the entire North-East region.

In addition to its recognition, the Department of Pediatrics at CIHSR Hospital has been offering a DNB Pediatrics postgraduate specialty training program since 2022. With the new Level 3 accreditation, the PICU is now eligible to launch training courses for nurses in pediatric critical care under the IAP-Indian College of Pediatrics.

According to a press release from Dr Sedevi Angami, Director of CIHSR, and Dr R. Wonashi Tsanglao, Consultant Pediatric Intensivist, this achievement will significantly enhance healthcare services for children in Nagaland. It is also expected to set a benchmark for pediatric care, especially in resource-limited settings.

This milestone highlights CIHSR Hospital’s ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation, and the delivery of top-tier pediatric healthcare in the region, the press release added.
