RSU cleans up NH-2 under Tseminyu subdivision
Tseminyu, November 1 (MExN): A total of 55 volunteers under the aegis of Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) cleaned up stretches of NH-2 under Tseminyu Sub-division on October 29 and 30.
Held under the theme ‘Mission-Clean Highway,’ over the two-day cleanliness drive, the volunteers collected about 2,000 kgs of non- degradable wastes like plastic wrappers, plastic bottles, etc, a press release from the RSU general secretary Kegwalo Magh informed on Monday. The drive was organised as a prelude to RSU Platinum Jubilee Celebration which will be held in 2022, it added.
Launching the drive, Tseminyu’s Additional Deputy Commissioner W Manphai Phom lauded the students for taking up such noble community service and assured his support towards the movement, the release stated.
The RSU meanwhile expressed serious concern over the reckless dumping of building construction materials and stone quarrying activities along the highway, which it said, is obstructing free vehicular traffic, causing damage to newly constructed highway and posing potential risk for road mishaps thus creating inconvenience to the commuters/travellers.
“It also witnessed the landslides, rock fall and sinking area in various locations requiring immediate interventions such as stone pebbles, sand gravel, loose soil laying un-removed on the black topped surface,” the release stated. As such, the RSU urged the administration, TK engineering and Village Councils of the highway area to collectively take corrective measures.
“The much needed good roads have become a reality after a long wait, now it is also the responsibility of the citizens to take care of the roads and make the highway green, clean and hassle free travel zone,” the release stated.
The office of the RSU thank the ADC Tseminyu for sparing the truck for collecting and disposing the garbages/trashes, T K Engineering for providing refreshment and individual well wishers for sponsoring working lunch, T-shirts, caps, garbage bags for volunteers.
