Civil Demonstration for peace talks on Dec 12

Dimapur, Dec 9 (MExN): A civil demonstration calling for an early solution to the Naga political problem, reaffirming the need of the Naga people for peace at ‘any cost’ would be held on December 12 (Monday) from 9-11 am at the City Tower junction Dimapur. This was decided at a joint meeting of tribal Hoho leaders, women, church and the student community held under the aegis of the Naga Council on December 8 where views on the ongoing Naga Peace process were expressed as well as certain resolutions passed.

While expressing the paramount need of the Nagas for peace at any cost, many were of the opinion that the pace of the present talks had slowed down and need to be expedited, according to a copy of the resolution issued on behalf of the public by Savi Liegise, President of the Naga Council. In reaffirmation of the need, the civil demonstration will be held. Flags, placards and banners shall be distributed to citizens, at shops, streets, colonies, surrounding villages. The people would then converge at the City Tower Junction where the meeting shall commence by 9am. It was informed that the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) would be responsible for arranging and the distribution of the flags, banners and placards which shall signify peace and cooperation. 

Further it was also decided that Tribal Hoho presidents and Tribal councilors shall be responsible for informing their respective tribes/communities as well as mobilizing their respective communities to attend the meeting without fail and also to make sure that members attend in respective tribal shawls. Apex tribal organizations under Dimapur district such as the Chakhro Public Organization (CPO), Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) etc would be informed and requested to participate in the civil demonstration. Also in order to create greater awareness and mobilize wider participation, The Dimapur Naga Women Hoho was entrusted with the task of announcing the program in and around the city thorough Mobile PA system by December 11 evening. The sound system and the stage shall be arranged by the Naga Council who would also print the necessary information, handbills and distribute them to various tribal/public organizations and the Church. Appeal to the public would be made through the print media inviting all concerned and peace-loving citizens to render support in the civil demonstration in the larger interest of all.
