Clean Election Movement condemns abduction and murder in Chungtia

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 23 (MExN): The Clean Election Movement (NBCC) today condemned the abduction and murder of one Imkongjeba Kichu under Koridang Constituency of Chungtia village, Mokokchung District on February 23.

A press release from Dr Villo Naleo, Convener, Clean Election Movement and Rev Suhuto Chishi, Youth Secretary, NBCC said that such barbaric acts leading to the taking of a young life is “morally and ethically unacceptable before the law and against God himself.”

‘The murder of Imkongjeba is a murder of democracy, a murder of brotherhood and the worst degradation of Christian morality,’ it stated.

It appealed to lawmakers and law-keepers to book the perpetrators at the earliest. “We cannot allow such evil courses to take place when we are appealing to all the Nagas to adhere to the Election Code of Conduct and shun violence,” it said.

The Clean Election Movement further urged all political parties to uphold peaceful means and promote conducive atmosphere by restraining from any form of confrontation.

Politics of violence should not be allowed: ABAM

The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) today lamented that despite the efforts made in terms of the Clean Election campaigns, “seeing what is happening in our State over the weeks is sad.”

While condemning the murder of a person at Chungtia village, the ABAM said that it, in no way, compromises with the act of murder. It prayed that justice be brought forth and extended condolence to the bereaved family.

“When a fair and free election is the only solution to peaceful living, violence of all sorts is a direct imprudent to the cry of our people. We stoutly condemn the devious behaviour that has been creating unpleasant situations in our State even to the extent of murder,” a press release from ABAM Executive Secretary, Rev Dr Mar Pongener stated.

The ABAM called upon the administration to undertake extensive campaigns against extremist elements trying to gain access to success through illegal activities in this election. “These are not just a contravention of the law but a direct insult to humanity. The politics of violence should not be allowed to proliferate in a state predominantly occupied by Christians,” it stated. The ABAM cautioned that “murderous politics,” if allowed to proliferate, would eventually deny democratic space in the state resulting in even the fall short of “what we call Christian disciplines.”

It urged the administration and all apex bodies in the state to prevent the recurrence of such acts. “The fever of election will soon go away from us, but the communal relationship will continue to exist. Keeping that in mind, let us sensibly create a platform that suits every individual. Violence is never the solution to our corrupt electioneering system,” it said.
