Stresses community participation in development
Kohima, October 31 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio on Saturday inaugurated the Lhisemia multipurpose building at Khrabvübozou, L. Khel Kohima village, and called for greater community participation in development, saying government funds alone cannot build a better society.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Rio said he was proud of the Lhisemia community for its “tremendous work and development” contributing to society, and noted that success and development “reflect directly on the cooperation, togetherness and mutual understanding between the leaders and the communities.”
As per the DIPR report, he applauded the leadership for initiating the project, saying it “will definitely serve and benefit the entire community for generations to come.”
Stressing that the building was constructed despite limited government funds, Rio said contributions from the community in cash and kind had made the structure “much better than expected.” Citing it as an example for every community, he appealed to people “not to solely depend on government funds but work together with oneness for more development.”
The Chief Minister also briefed the gathering on the Naga political issue, the Protected Area Permit (PAP), the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN). He underscored the importance of customary law, which he said receives special constitutional protection under Article 371A of the Indian Constitution, asserting that many indigenous peoples rely on customary law to manage land tenure, resources and traditional dispute resolution.
Former Chief Minister Shürhozelie Liezietsu, speaking on the occasion, said the land for the building was donated by Lhouvizolie Tsiekhanuo and his family with the “good gesture that the people can utilize it for the benefit of everyone.” He expressed pride in the community's wisdom in constructing such a utility building and urged everyone, especially the youth, to embrace the culture of the elders and “stand for truth,” propagating “honesty and truthfulness,” which he said should be built within oneself and serve as an example for everyone.
Advisor for School Education Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome also spoke on the occasion, while Convenor of the Building Committee Dr KD Vizo highlighted the construction of the building.
Rev Fr Keduoneilie Alex Vizo, Priest in-charge of St. Luke Church Phezoucha, and Rev Keviyiekielie Linyü, Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, invoked God's blessings. The welcome address was delivered by Chairman of the Lhisemia Council, Pekruzetuo Kesiezie.
