CNC mourns demise of late Rev Dr John A Sundquist

Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): The Council of Nagalim Churches (CNC) has mourned the demise of Rev Dr John A Sundquist, former executive director of American Baptist International Ministries (IM) who passed away on February 21 at Bethany Beach in Swayer, Michigan, USA.

In a condolence message, Ikato Chishi Swu, General Secretary, CNC said that late Rev Dr John “was a passionate missionary, a peacemaker and a person who had a heart for providing justice, liberty, and upliftment of the downtrodden people like the Nagas. He was a true friend, who had a genuine love and concern for the Naga people.”

Swu recollected that in 1998 when the Naga people boycotted Indian election and opted for solution not election, he took the initiative to write 6000 letters to churches around the world to pray and support the Naga issue. Later, he also participated in Naga reconciliation meetings organised by FNR (Forum for Naga Reconciliation).

“His good deeds towards the Nagas will always be remembered and cherished. It is our sincere prayer that the Good Lord will reward him abundantly in heaven,” the message stated.

In his demise, CNC stated that the Nagas have lost a true friend, a sincere supporter and a fervent prayer partner, and the vacuum created by his loss will be very hard to fill.

“On behalf of all the churches in Nagalim,” CNC also conveyed “heartfelt condolences to the lady wife Carol Sundquist, children, grandchildren and other family members. May the good Lord comfort you and grant you peace in this difficult hour of great loss and grief!”
