Dimapur, December 13 (MExN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) and the Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ZCCI) today expressed concerns over unsolicited coercive donations to raise funds and cautioned against such activities.
As the festive season sets in, the CNCCI appeals to those organisations and groups involved in forceful donation drives such as selling of tickets, lotteries, calendars etc to be humane “considering that business community too has families to feed and also will celebrate the festive season as part of the society,” informed a press release from the Chamber.
It further cautioned those involving in such unsolicited threats and coercive activities to raise funds that there are various government and administration orders banning those collection and drives.
The Chamber will not hesitate to report those activities to the competent authority for stringent action, added the release issued by the CNCCI Chairman, Dr Khekugha Muru and General Secretary Dr Seyievilie Mor.
It further noted that as the festive season sets in after a global pandemic that has deeply affected the business community for two years, many businesses are closing down and many incurring heavy losses.
While sympathising with them it is heartening to see the business community is slowly but surely pulling forward. However, the business community will take years to even achieve pre 2020 position/situation, the CNCCI said. Accordingly, the CNCCI issued the appeal against coercive activities to raise funds.
The CNCCI also conveyed a Merry Christmas and fruitful New Year to all the business community across Nagaland and its citizens.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the ZCCI informed of its decision to impose a “blanket ban” on any form of unauthorised donation and extortion.
It was adopted at emergency meeting held on December 13 which deliberated on ways to curb the ‘unwanted and unauthorised donations seeking” from the public and business community.
The meeting also resolved to apprise the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) for strict control of prices of commodities in order to ensure price escalation control during festive season, the ZCCI statement said.
“All the shops shall inform the ZCCI grievances cell in care of unauthorised donation /extortion at this given phone numbers,” it added.
The meeting resolved to award the best decorated shop in the town.
