Come forth with decisive answer on status of Indo- Naga ceasefire in Arunachal: NSCN (IM) tells GoI

Flays March 20 incident in Tirap district

Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) flayed the March 20 Tirap incident  and stated that a “decisive answer that should come forth from the Government of India (GoI) on the status of the Indo-Naga ceasefire in Arunachal Pradesh.”

As per a press release from MIP NSCN (IM), one of its cadres and a civilian were allegedly “gunned down deliberately despite knowing that they are not NSCN-K (YA) members” by the Assam Rifles (AR).

The incident is something “we cannot forbear any longer” and it is now time to say “enough is enough,” the release stated, further noting that it came after the Nginu killing more than a year ago.

The NSCN (IM) further alleged that on many occasions, the AR has “gone too aggressive to get the best of the Cease Fire Ground Rules (CFGRs)” to suit its design against NSCN, which so far has “exercised a gentleman attitude all the way to honor the CFGRs.”

It further charged the paramilitary forces of “reckless attitude” for the last 25 years since the signing the historic Indo-Naga ceasefire in 1997.

To this end, the NSCN (IM) cautioned that it is ready to act “if the mindless attack against NSCN goes on unabated under one pretext or the other” in Arunachal Pradesh.

If the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and GoI think “there is no ceasefire in Arunachal Pradesh, let it be so,” the NSCN (IM) stated, even as it asked the GoI to come forth with decisive answer on the Indo-Naga ceasefire status  in Arunachal Pradesh.

It further stated that the Arunachal Pradesh has been on NSCN’s radar for quite sometimes and further charged the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister entering “into a political conspiracy to erase the ethnic identity of the Nagas in the state.”

In this connection, the NSCN (IM) stated that it shall not “allow any Naga MLAs/Ministers” to support “anti-Naga socio-politico stand.”

Correction
An earlier version of this article, based on a press release from NSCN (IM), MIP stated that two if its cadres had died.  The MIP has issued a corrigendum thereafter, stating that one cadre and a civilian died. The article has been updated accordingly to reflect the new development.
