Following his victory in the Southern Angami I AC, newly elected MLA Medo Yhokha today reiterated his commitment towards his party and his people stating that, “The commitment given to our people stands paramount.”

Yhokha was speaking at the thanksgiving program of the People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) held at Hotel Vivor, Kohima on November 11.

“I went to this election on assurance and commitment to bring about change and all round development, to create new ideas, skills and opportunities and open up new vistas. Commitments and assurances were made while begging and soliciting for votes and now the time has come for us to stand committed to the assurances given to the people. I hope the party will not fail me or fail my people,” affirmed Yhokha.

Acknowledging the strength of working together, Yhokha expressed gratitude to the entire campaigning team, star campaigners, party workers, PDA workers, party functionaries, and supporters who laid the ground strategies and executed it with success.

“Credit also goes out to our voters and our people who battled the challenges withstanding the weather and physical struggles voted for us. During the whole process of election campaign, there were numerous shortcomings. I own personally all the shortcomings and limitations that have happened,” said Yhokha who also attributed the success to God.

To the PDA leaders, Yhokha said, “As I start my political innings, I hope you will continue to anchor, lead and advice me. I reiterate and reaffirm my unflinching solidarity and loyalty to our party.”

While congratulating Yhokha in his thanksgiving message, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio acknowledged the full commitment of the PDA from top to bottom that has made the election successful for the alliance.

“The privileges the party received in running the affairs of the people comes with a heavy responsibility,” reminded Rio. Like most elections, Rio noted that the recently held election was not easy especially with its own party member leaving the party and contesting as an independent candidate. “We thought we are going to have a walk over. But it was a fight between the family. Because of the independent we had some difficulties,” said Rio.

On the newly elected MLA, Rio noted that Yhokha has done his part as a student, a youth and now as a party worker. With proper support and guidance, Rio hoped that the young MLA will bring much needed change in the State.

“It is an era of the youth. It is the century of the youth. They have to take the responsibility, they have to take the ownership,” said Rio who however noted that 'individual goodness' is not enough and called for a 'collective effort and teamwork'.

Rio also called out on the Naga youths and challenged them to come forward and take responsibility in changing the course of the State. He however reminded the youth that they have to exhibit themselves without expecting or demanding services or benefits from others.  “You have to work to be visible,” said Rio.

In her welcome address, Kekhrienuo Meyase, President, Women Org. Kohima region acknowledged gratitude over the teamwork carried out by the PDA partnership which led to the victory at the Southern Angami I AC.  Meyase hoped that the 'oneness exhibited this time' is also repeated again even in the days to come.

Brief thanksgiving messages were delivered by Chingwang Konyak, President NDPP & Chairman, PDA,
Dr. Longriniken, and Peter Rutsa, Vice President BJP Nagaland who spoke on behalf of Temjen Imna Along, President, BJP Nagaland, and Co Chairman, PDA.

The thanksgiving ceremony also marked the 70th birthday of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. In honor of Rio's birthday, Chairperson Abu Metha informed that party workers across the State will be carrying out charitable works where they will be visiting orphanages, old age homes, hospitals, planting trees, and organise sanitation activities on November 11.

Metha also thanked Rio for choosing the young brigade in his government and remarked that the newly elected MLA Medo Yhokha reflects the aspirations of young Nagas.
