KOHIMA: Home Minister Thenucho while urging the two communities involved in the Tobu issue to join hands in addressing the problem, he assured the assembly that the government was doing everything possible to find a solution.

In response to a question raised by MLA Shaboh Konyak on whether any arrest had been made in connection to the June 7 incident, the Minister stated that no arrest had been made so far as they found the names listed in the document left at the crime scene to be fictitious. He further informed the assembly that the government could not take pre-emptive action based on the supposed names.

The Opposition members not satisfied with the response given by the Home reacted sharply by pointing out that the government could have done more to bring about justice.

In response to a question raised by Therie on the government’s approach to address the root cause of the Tobu issue, the Minister replied that the State Government has been contacting both sides through Ministers; MLA’s as well as senior government officers and the TMPO office bearers and had been urging both sides to find an amicable settlement to the problem.

Further in the session, Chief Minister Rio stated that Rs. 1 lakh each as ex-gratia to those people killed in the June 7 incident had been compensated by the government.

He further stated that the appointment of the next to kin of the deceased by the government was not possible as the department had not received any such proposals.
