COVID-19 Community Kitchen, a joint initiative of Mokokchung District Administration and the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) has since Thursday started offering free meals to stranded labourers, migrant workers, daily wage earners and those people in need of food in Mokokchung.
More than 70 people were fed on Thursday and a similar number on Friday as well. Pastor of MTBA, Rev. Ponen Longchar informed that the meals, sponsored by MTBA, everyone in need of a meal are welcome. The meals are served at the MTBA church premises from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, following strict COVID-19 protocols.
Dipnarayan Singh, a 60-year old grandfather and migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh, one of the needy people who turned up for the serving today said that he was grateful for the meal and appreciated the Community Kitchen initiative. He said that his wife, children and grandchildren were there in his native state and that he was stranded here because of the 21-day national lockdown.
The pastor of the church said that all of the needy people who turn up for the free meal were migrant workers and added that all those who are in need of a meal, including locals, were welcome to the Community Kitchen.
