‘Community participation needed to create awareness on SUMAN’

Wokha, December 14 (MExN): A district level workshop on SUMAN (Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan) was held at CMO Conference Hall, Wokha on December 14.

Addressing the participants, Chief Medical Officer, Wokha Dr CW Tungoe noted on the importance of maternal and newborn health. Community participation is needed to create more awareness on SUMAN, he added. 

Dr Khelito Zhimomi, DPO (UIP/RCH) gave a presentation on SUMAN, explaining its role in improving maternal health. She highlighted on the vision, goal and beneficiaries for zero preventable maternal and newborn deaths. Dr Khelito encouraged the Lotha Eloe Hoho members to be SUMAN champions and create awareness on various incentives provided by the government under maternal health. 

Medical Superintendant District Hospital, Dr Tumchobeni Kikon informed the participants that District Hospital has recorded zero maternal death cases from March 2019 till date. 

Dr Thungchanbeni Patton, DPM (Q) spoke on LAQSHYA activities in the district. The programme was attended by Dr Zuben Kikon, Dy CMO, Dr Daisy Ovung, DNO NTCP, Eloe Hoho members, NHM and district hospital staffs.
