WOKHA, MAY 8 (MExN): “Human service and collective compassion are essential in building stronger communities,” said Dr Khyobenthung Tsopoe, Vice President of Mount Tiyi College, Wokha, during the observation of World Red Cross Day at the DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha, on May 8.

In his address, Dr Tsopoe highlighted the historical background and purpose of the Red Cross movement. He spoke on its mission of promoting a caring and healthier society and emphasised the importance of helping others, including strangers.

Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao, also addressed the gathering and spoke on the objectives of Red Cross Day and the role of volunteer organisations.

He said the Red Cross has contributed significantly to community health services and addressing social issues, while stressing the need for practical approaches to bring positive change in society.

Drawing from his personal experiences, Tsanglao encouraged citizens to become socially and morally conscious in volunteering activities.

“The Red Cross is not limited to wartime or disaster assistance alone, but extends far beyond and touches everyday lives,” he said.

The programme featured a special song presented by Isiah Ability Higher Secondary School, Wokha.

A brief report was presented by Secretary of IRCSW, Nzano P Kikon, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Yilobemo Humtsoe.
