Complete development projects in Mon: KU urges Nagaland govt

MON, OCTOBER 18 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) has urged the Nagaland Government to ensure that development projects brought to Mon should be completed and made to function properly.

A press release from the KU media cell thanked the Government of Nagaland for bringing various developmental works.

“Through the able leadership of the Chief Minister, H&FW Minister and concerned Ministers in-charge of various departments and with the support and commitment of the nine Legislators of Mon district, many developmental schemes and projects have been initiated…particularly in fulfilling the aspirations by completing and inaugurating the 11 IR Battalion and Polytechnic at Aboi,” the KU stated.

It however said that despite these developments that have come into reality, “it should not be compromised by merely infrastructures and buildings.”

“Apart from some achievements and foundation laying ceremonies, practically these developments are yet to see the light of day; particularly mention may be made of some few major projects that need immediate attention,” the KU stated.

First, it called upon the government to immediately commence the construction of Medical College. With the inauguration and laying of foundation stone for Medical College at Mon HQ by the Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan, the Konyak Union asked the Central and State Governments to expedite the project in full swing at the earliest since all issues and rectifications in regard to site allocation and other necessary matters has been settled.

It also urged that academic activities at Model College, Wakching commence immediately with adequate human resource and a fully functional institution.

The KU meanwhile also pointed to the working women’s hostel at Mon town under the Planning & Coordination Department.

It further said that pressure must be put on the NHIDCL for re-tendering under Package III & IV (Merangkong-Mon Road), since the works had been abandoned by the Manoranjan Brahma Firm.

The KU added that there needs to expeditious pressure on the NHIDCL for construction of inter-state road connectivity between Zero-Point (Nagaland)-Simulguri (Assam) via Naginimora.

With regard to the Pongma Bridge, Tizit (between Assam and Nagaland), the KU reminded that the State Government was requested a number of times to give heed for the construction of Pongma bridge in consultation with its counterpart in Assam, since it is the only economic lifeline for Mon district. The condition of the bridge is “worsening day by day,” the KU informed.
