Celebrating the spirit of music, sound of melody and notes of instruments, various musicians from the states of Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya came together for the ‘World Music Day Concert’ at Room03, Dimapur on June 21.
Marking the annual World Music Day, the concert was organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Guwahati Horizon series in association with Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland.
The event was made extra special with the bright performances from the young upcoming artistes including Gideon Kithan, Jungtijung, Musik-A School and Hope Centre School of Music & Arts.
The jam-packed audience were treated to some riveting performances by Imphal Talkies Band from Manipur, Alobo Naga & The Band (ANTB) from Nagaland, Daniel Engty Band from Diphu and Lamphang Syiemlieh from Meghalaya.
Tiapong Tzudir was the concert host, Alobo Naga, Director, Musik-A gave the welcome address, greetings were delivered by Dr Hovithal Sothü, Project Director of TaFMA and Madhurkankana Roy, Regional Director ICCR, Guwahati.
The event and the artistes for the evening were curated and managed by Musik-A Events of Nagaland.
Speaking to The Morung Express after the concert, Alobo Naga said ‘it was a very successful show.’ “We always wanted to something like this to celebrate World Music Day. Tonight we got almost all the genre, from folk music to Broadway; folk fusion to rock.” He also added that the artists were between the age groups of 6 to 40 years. “Really happy!” he exclaimed.
World Music Day was first celebrated as Fete de la Musique in France in 1982. It was organised by Jack Lang in 1982, who was then French Culture Minister, and Maurice Fleuret, Director of Music and Dance at the French Ministry of Culture.
