Cong demands resignation of Union HM for ‘misleading’ Parliament

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 27 (MExN): The Congress has demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister, Amit Shah for “misleading Parliament and the nation” on the December 4 Oting killings.

A press release from the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President, K Therie on Monday, said that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has also demanded Rs 1 crore for the slain victims and Rs 10 lakhs to the injured as compensation, while urging for a Judicial Enquiry Commission headed by a sitting High Court Judge.

“Committee to study  Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) has nothing to study since there is no terrorist and neither secessionist forces anymore in Nagaland. Congress’ stand is AFSPA is not required in Nagaland. In our understanding, AFSPA has nothing to do with justice to the Oting massacre. The application of AFSPA does not arise with peaceful people,” the NPCC said.

Meanwhile, the NPCC stated that while “looking at the joint meeting decisions, we strongly suspect the Oting massacre is a result of the collaboration of GOI and CMs of Nagaland and Assam to derail ceasefire and delay implementation of negotiated settlement.”

“Now they are all trying to escape through AFSPA. We therefore demanded an All Party Parliamentary Committee. However AICC in their wisdom demanded Judicial Enquiry Commission headed by sitting HC Judge of Gauhati High Court because the subjects are above the spectrum of SIT or Court of Enquiry. They cannot enquire into their masters,” the NPCC release stated.

It said that law and order is a state subject, adding that the Chief Minister and the Home Minister are answerable to the people.

The NPCC questioned as to why the 21 para security forces were called in to Nagaland for the operation; and why Nagaland Police were “kept in the dark.” “This is why an Independent Enquiry Commission is required,” it maintained.
