DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 11 (MExN): The Nagaland Home Department has asked the Principal Commissioner and Secretary and all Deputy Commissioners to issue orders to all the Village Councils reiterating the ban on hunting of wild animals in their areas.

The notice comes in the backdrop of the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus in China and other countries as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

“Available evidence on the Novel Coronavirus and past experience with other Coronavirus and other respiratory viruses suggest that there may have been transmission of viruses from wild animals to humans,” it added.

The notice informed that as per the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare’s advisory, among other preventive measures against the spread of the aforesaid virus, it has been suggested to refrain from activities like hunting which increases the chances of contact of wild animals and wild animal products with humans.

WHO names Novel Coronavirus  as 'Covid-19'
The World Health Organisation on Tuesday said "Covid-19" would be the new official name for the deadly coronavirus that was first identified in China on December 31. "We now have a name for the disease and it's Covid-19," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters in Geneva, explaining that "co" stood for "corona", "vi" for "virus" and "d" for "disease"
