COVID-19: Positivity rate below 5% for third week in Nagaland

2 new cases in Dimapur; 7 single-day recoveries

Dimapur, March 12 (MExN): Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): The state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme on Saturday reported two new COVID-19 cases and seven single-day recoveries from the disease.

The daily bulletin issued by the ISDP stated that the new cases were detected during self tests and random testing in Dimapur district. This takes the cumulative tally of infections to 35,447 and the active case count to 60.

On the other hand, the state’s cumulative tally of recoveries increased to 33, 148 after seven patients—Dimapur (4), Kohima (2) and Mokokchung (1) — recuperated from the disease. The COVID-19 death toll remained unchanged at 753 as no fresh fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours. 

Out of 60 active cases in the state, 55 are asymptomatic, four mild and one moderate on oxygen.

Dimapur district has the highest COVID-19 caseload with 40 active cases, 13 in Kohima, five in Mokokchung, and one each in Kiphire and Longleng. While data reporting for the new districts are covered under former districts as there are no separate surveillance units yet for the new districts, as on Saturday, there are no active COVID-19 cases in Wokha, Mon, Tuensang, Peren, Zunheboto and Phek districts. 

Positivity rate at 1.4%
Meanwhile, the state saw a marginal increase in its weekly COVID-19 sample positivity rate from 1% to 1.4% during the week ending March 11 after detecting 28 new cases from 2027 samples tested. A total of 22 cases were detected in the previous week.

Accordingly, the sample positivity rate has remained below 5% for the past three weeks in the state, as per the weekly bulletin issued by the IDSP.

The state also did not record any COVID-19 fatalities during the past week, while the total number of deaths registered in the third or Omicron wave was 36. A total of seven new COVID-19 hospital admissions were reported from COVID-19 hospitals across the state in the past week.

The bulletin also stated that 23% of symptomatic COVID-19 cases were classified under “severe category” in the first wave, 27% in the second or Delta wave and 13% in the third or Omicron wave.

More than 15.64 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across all age groups in the state and 23,479 people have already received the third or precautionary dose.

At this stage of transmission, the Department of Health & Family Welfare recommends use of mask in public places and COVID-19 vaccination to avoid more deaths or hospitalizations, the bulletin stated.
