DIMAPUR, AUGUST 13 (MExN): The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has welcomed the Nagaland State Government’s decision to constitute a Reservation Review Commission (RRC), describing it as “a positive stride towards fairness, transparency and a more inclusive employment policy for all tribes in Nagaland.”
In a statement issued on August 13, CPO President Vezuhu Keyho and General Secretary Chepetso Koza said the organisation appreciated “the timely and decisive step taken by the State Government” and expressed hope that the RRC would “help bring clarity and balance to the reservation policy for the betterment of all communities.”
Citing data from the Personnel Information Management System (PIMS) and the Census of India, which it had published in local dailies on June 12, 2025, the CPO said “there are stark disparities in employment between the Advanced Tribes and the Backward Tribes in Nagaland” and that these “cannot be ignored.” It said advanced tribes have “access to better resources, education, and employment opportunities” while backward tribes “face serious challenges” despite their “rich cultural heritage and significant contributions to the state.”
“We urge the State Government to carefully consider these disparities while drafting the reservation policy,” the statement read, adding that the interests of backward tribes must be safeguarded “to promote social harmony and equitable development for all sections of society.”
The CPO further urged the formation of “a Statutory Commission comprising highly reputed experts, empowered to function independently and objectively” to undertake “a comprehensive overhaul of the existing policy” reflecting the current socio-economic realities of the State. The revised policy, it said, must address prevailing disparities and “ensure that underprivileged groups are brought on par with the advanced communities, thereby promoting social equity, harmony, and the constitutional vision of equality and peaceful coexistence.”
Reaffirming its commitment to work with the State Government and all stakeholders, the CPO said it stood ready “to contribute positively to this process” in the hope that collective efforts “will bring about a fairer and more balanced employment policy for all the people of Nagaland.”
