Crimes against women: NSWC for prompt justice

The Nagaland State Women Commission (NSWC) members and legal consultants visited all the district courts and have collected the data of all the pending cases of crimes against women from the respective offices in Nagaland. The list of pending cases, district wise so far collected by the Commission read as follows: Peren – 2, Wokha- 16, Kohima- 17, Mokokchung- 5, Dimapur- 13, Phek- 3, Kiphire- Nil, Longleng- Nil, Mon- 2, Tuensang- 2 and Zunheboto- 3. The Commission requested the concerned authority to take up the cases and deliver justice without delay. In the meantime, the Commission conveyed its appreciation in regard to the judgment passed in Dorogapathar, Dimapur, rape cases, which occurred in March 25, 2009. It appreciated “the prompt delivery of justice” in the court of Hukato Swu, District and Session Judge, Dimapur. While appreciating the judiciary, the Commission also stated that it looks forward to the same prompt delivery of justice in regard to similar pending cases in different district courts, “ which will definitely go a long way in gaining the public trust in the functioning of the judiciary in the state of Nagaland.”
