Wokha, February 24 (MExN): The Consumer Rights Organisation Wokha (CROW) on February 23 conducted ‘extensive checking’ within Wokha town, in an attempt to discourage illegal business practices.

According to a press release from the CROW Media Cell, the Lotha Students' Union (LSU) and Lotha Youth Hoho also participated in the drive.

The release stated that the team seized a total of 20 shovels from sand stockists that were below standard size. According to the organization, the stockists revealed that they were ‘compelled’ to use sub-standard shovels in order to save expenses and increase their profit margin.

The CROW cautioned the sand stockists and sales agencies to stop illegal business and informed them to approach its office for any grievances, the release stated.

The organisation further inspected all hotels, restaurants and other commercial kitchens to check the use of LPG cylinders. It said that most commercial kitchens were using domestic LPG cooking gas and causing shortage of domestic LPG. As such, it directed the establishments to register for commercial LPG connections within 30 days, the release stated.

It further stated that all seized items were handed over to the district administration in the presence of EAC Wokha HQ Yentinoungbou.
