The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 78th Battalion at Zubza under Kohima district today celebrated the 82nd Foundation Day of CRPF with great pomp and enthusiasm.

To mark the foundation day, variety of programmes were organized at the Zubza camp under the leadership of Bijender Kumar Dahiya, Commandant (AOD).

The celebration started with paying homage to the brave martyrs of the force who sacrificed their lives in the line duty for the cause of nation.

Wreaths were laid by officers and men at Jai Jawan Memorial structure at Unit Headquarter, which was followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour and hoisting of CRPF Flag at the Unit Quarter Guard.

The Commandant (AOD) said that initially the CRPF was raised under British rule on July 27, 1939 at Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh as ‘Crown Representative Police.’

After independence, Sardar Vallaba Bhai Patel, the first Home minister considering the value and importance and the versatility of the force, decided not to disband the British force.  Rather keeping in view the requirement of the nation, he rechristened the Crown Representative’s Police as ‘Central Reserve Police Force’ as an Armed Force under the Union of India.

Today the CRPF is the largest Para Military force of the world, and is performing diverse duties across the length and breadth of the Nation. CRPF is also sending its contingent as peace keeping Force of UN to various war-torn countries.

To mark the day, various sports and games competitions like inter-company badminton, volleyball and a painting competition for children were organized and prizes were distributed to the winners.

In the evening, a combined ‘Bara Khana’ (grand feast) was organized at all sub units, out posts and Unit Head Quarter.
