CSU condemns assault of 10-year-old boy

KOHIMA, AUGUST 20 (MExN): The Chiechama Students’ Union (CSU) has condemned the alleged physical assault of a 10-year-old boy, who is a member of the union, by a 38-year-old man serving as a warden at a private hostel in Chiephobozou town.

In a statement issued on August 20, the CSU described the incident as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable”, particularly as the accused was entrusted with the care, supervision and safety of students. “No form of discipline can justify physically assaulting or harming a child,” the CSU stated.

The union said it stood firmly against all forms of physical abuse, violence and intimidation against students, adding that such actions should not be normalised or taken lightly under the guise of discipline. The CSU urged the concerned authorities to take the matter seriously and conduct a “proper, fair and impartial investigation”, including examination of all relevant evidence, and take appropriate legal and departmental action in accordance with the law.

It also called for measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the minor and prevent any further harm, intimidation or retaliation against the child. “The protection and well-being of every child must remain a priority,” the union stated.
