‘Cultural Connect’- 17 troupes brings show to close

Kisama, December 10 (MExN): ‘Cultural Connect’- the cultural extravaganza of Hornbill Festival, presenting a cultural panorama into the rich cultural songs, dances, traditional games and rituals of the Nagas culminated on December 10.
A total of 17 cultural troupes from different tribes of Nagaland braved the weather of Kisama to enthrall, entertain and give a glimpse into the unique culture and practices of the Nagas.
Namri Nchang Advisor Irrigation & Flood Control was the chief host of the final session of Cultural Connect at Naga Heritage Village Kisama.
The Angami cultural troupe performed ‘Licha Peli’ which depicts the celebration of romance with music and work. The Khiamniungan cultural troupe performed ‘Waikoi Phing- Phing’ (making of sounds using feather), a ritual done during the Bi-Am festival.
The Kuki cultural troupe demonstrated the traditional game, ‘Kangchong Kap,’ a game played by spinning a top made of wood. The Lotha cultural troupe performed a folk dance signifying the separation of old and the New Year. The Sangtam cultural troupe performed an act of feast of merit known as ‘Shumüying Kyüba.’
A song about rice pounding was performed by the Konyak cultural troupe. The Pochury cultural troupe performed a folk dance called ‘Thso thse,’ a dance performed by young women. The Sumi cultural troupe ended the cultural performances by re-enacting the gallant acts of a brave warrior, (Aqhe Kishi) invading fortified enemy village.
‘Cultural Connect,’ performances were compered by Christine Longchari and Kenilo Kessen and the event was organized by the Department of Art & Culture.
