‘Cultural Connect’ presents vibrant performances

Kisama, December 9 (MExN): The afternoon session of the Cultural Connect event at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama witnessed yet another colorful and vibrant lineup of cultural performances from eight different cultural troupes.


Phom Cultural Troupe opened the proceedings for the afternoon session with Khong Nya Yong, a traditional dance accompanied by a folk song and is performed by both men and women. The song is about celebrating the friendship among the villagers as well as with the neighbouring villages. 


Kachari Cultural Troupe enthralled the audience and the guests Khupri Sipnai, a folk dance that depicts the hard labour and tiresome process of cultivation. The Ao Cultural Troupe performed a folk dance called Ani Asungba that represents the traditional way of proposing a girl for marriage. 


The Kuki Cultural Troupe performed the Sagol Kenkhai a folk dance patterned on the movement of a group of wild pigs. The dance is performed with the blowing of Theiphit (wind instruments), drums and gongs.


The Chang Cultural Troupe gave a brief demonstration of Shatpu Jupu Bhang Lapu which is the traditional way of treating a person who is ill. It involves sucking on the affected part of of the body to extract any impurities responsible for the illness. 


The Zeliang Cultural Troupe performed the Elutatei a folk dance that expresses ones longing to be in the land of Nsengberam or paradise where there is abundant food and drinks with no toiling. It is a fascinating dance performed in two lines where many can join the dance. 


The Pochury Cultural Troupe performed the Alo Losikho, a folk dance and the Rengma Cultural Troupe closed the proceedings for the afternoon with Shyu Kenyun a demonstration of the traditional way of threshing rice where men within the working group who are good at threshing are called to do the job.
