Kiphire, April 24 (MExN): Dakshata training for medical personnel under Kiphire district was conducted in a phase-wise manner at the District Hospital, Kiphire from April 19 to 24. 

The training was imparted to Medical Officers, Community Health Officers, and nurses in two batches—the first batch was conducted from April 19 to 21, and the second batch from April 22 to 24, informed a press release issued by the District Media Officer, CMO Kiphire. 

The training focused upon improving care for mothers and newborns with an aim to reduce maternal and child mortality during childbirth and to provide quality service during delivery. During the training, mannequins and dummies were used to demonstrate normal delivery, essential newborn care, and new-born resuscitation. 

It may be mentioned that 35 medical personnel, comprising medical officers and nurses, were trained under Dakshata in a period of six days. Dakshata training is a technical update-cum-Skills Standardization training to improve care and survival of mothers and new-borns through hands on training with the latest clinical updates. 

The resource persons Dr Supongmeren, Senior Specialist (OBG) from IMDH, Mokokchung and Dr Longri Kichu, Senior Consultant UNICEF provided the training to the healthcare workers. The workshop was funded by NEC and REC through District Administration and CMO office, Kiphire.  

It is to be noted that the training was carried out under strict COVID-19 SOPs and after prior testing. Besides, the training deliberated on COVID-19 control and improving indicators for the aspirational district.
