DAN-Cong fails to break ground

Differences amongst the various political parties stalled the proposed all party delegation trip to New Delhi scheduled for the first week of this month. As per the original plan, the delegation was slated to meet central leaders on different issues pertaining to the state including the peace process.

Although State Home Minister  Thenucho said that the proposed trip had to be called off because of the election in some states, sources disclosed that cancellation was necessitated because of the differences amongst the various political parties in the state.

The actual differences were between the ruling DAN government and the opposition Congress as they failed to find any meeting point on the peace process.

While the DAN government wants to discuss even the peace process with the Centre, Congress disagreed to the idea on the point that it is not yet ready to broach the issue with India.

Congress sources admitted that earlier the Home Minister Thenucho had a discussion with the opposition leader I. Imkong on the proposal, but said that they have not agreed in principle to the proposal as it doesn’t seem to have any prospect on the ongoing peace talks.

“There was suggestion from the Home Minister for such trip to have a discussion with the central leaders on law and order, but we have not gone into detail”, said a top Congress leader, who did not want to be named. He also said that the Congress only told the people not to sleep over the ceasefire like in the past, but when the Nagas have not arrived at a common platform on the peace process, how they (legislators) can take the matter to the centre, he added.
