Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today lashed out at the Democratic Alliance of Government (DAN), particularly its Home Minister for the State’s failure to stem crime and criminal elements. The failure is due to the government’s constantly treating law and order problem as a “political problem” and the recognition given to the anti-social elements as “nationalists,” the NPCC reminded the DAN in a statement todady.
NPCC demands political will to curb crime
In the backdrop of the violence and deaths that has shaken the state, including yesterday’s wave of bloodshed in Dimapur, after a lull, the Congress demanded that the DAN government start acting. The Congress also demanded compensation for the losses and damages, both in lives and properties and in addition a ‘serious’ man-hunt to capture ‘the culprits’. The media cell of the NPCC expressed deep anguish and condemnation at the incidences of crime and violence and extended sincere condolences.
The NPCC has reiterated its conviction that the DAN is responsible for being apathetic and failing to exercise political will against lawlessness. “The recent incidents had belied the tall claim of peaceful atmosphere existing in the State by the Home Minister Shri. Imkong L. Imchen. The DAN Government has miserably failed to protect the lives and properties of its citizens. The State Home Minister’s failure stems from treating the law and order problem as political problem and the recognition given to the anti-social elements as nationalists. Where is the justification for the Home Minister to claim that Nagaland is the most peaceful State in the country?” the NPCC challenged.
On the violence in “Inavi village”, the NPCC squarely held the DAN government responsible. The NPCC echoed common sentiments – “Despite knowing the heightened tension persisting between the two villages, the DAN government headed by the Chief Minister Shri. Neiphiu Rio had turned its blind eye to the problem. The escalation of the problem into violent mode was the result of the government’s willful neglect. The Chief Minister and the Home Minister simply lacked the political will and courage to resolve the pending issue in good time. They will bear all responsibilities should there be any further escalation of violence or counter-violence.”
In addition, the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in 3rd Mile, Dimapur was another manifestation of the business community as soft targets, the Congress reminded. “This is not the first incident where the business community was targeted. Public memory is still fresh on the kidnapping and killing of one businessman at Kohima and another businessman been murdered in the brick kiln at Dimapur. The brutal and gruesome killings of these businessmen were all the consequences of extortion and illegal taxations,” the Congress reminded the DAN leaders.
The Congress stated – “When the DAN Govt. has continued to turn a blind eye to the chronic law and order problem, the desperate public at least expects the Governor of Nagaland to act and bring its government to task for breakdown in constitutional machinery. The citizens are no more save in the hands of the DAN government. The corrupt and lawless DAN government should not be allowed a free-run at the cost of the suffering public anymore.”
