Celebrates Toy Train Day
Maligaon, July 7 (MExN): The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway recorded its highest-ever revenue for the month of June, earning Rs 3.98 crore in June 2026, up from Rs 3.25 crore during the corresponding month last year.
According to a press release issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the record marks the highest June revenue in the history of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and reflects its growing popularity among tourists, along with continued efforts to promote heritage tourism and enhance passenger experience.
The milestone coincided with the celebration of Toy Train Day, during which the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway organised a community outreach programme at the historic Sukna Railway Station in collaboration with the North Bengal Painters Association.
The programme featured a heritage-themed painting competition and an interactive art workshop for local children and young artists to promote awareness of the railway's heritage through creative expression.
Participants created artworks inspired by the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the surrounding landscape and the region's cultural heritage under the guidance of experienced artists. The event also showcased a miniature replica of the iconic DHR Heritage Steam Engine by local artist Suman Roy.
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway said it remains committed to preserving its heritage while promoting cultural engagement, community participation and sustainable heritage tourism.
