Darogapathar gang rape: Police arrest five persons

DIMAPUR, MARCH 3 (MExN): Five persons, accused in the armed robbery and gang-rape of a married woman at Darogapathar on January 18 2014, have been arrested by Dimapur police. Police have further identified another three accomplices and are on the lookout for the co-accused, who are at the moment, evading arrest, informed a press note from the Addl. Superintendent of Police who is also the PRO, Dimapur Police.

Police informed that all the arrested accused have admitted to the armed robbery and rape of the victim, after tying up her husband in another room of the house. The five arrested have been identified as Rajib Ali alias Manik Ali (24), Rahul Ali alias Akbar (19), Feroz Ali (18), Atabur (35) and Naseer Uddin alias Sanu (20).

According to police, the accused revealed that on January 18, the gang members had hatched a plan to rob the victim’s house. At around 9:30 PM the gang armed with a pistol and with their faces covered with scarves, knocked on the door, which was opened by the husband. Police informed that the accused persons forcibly barged into the house and began assaulting the husband.

The manager of the nursery, where the victims work and who lives in the adjoining room, was also assaulted, when he went to enquire, on hearing the cries of the victims for help. The husband and the manager were tied up with scarves and confined in one room, which the armed intruders locked from outside. The armed intruders then took the wife to another room, where she was raped, stated the police. Thereafter, the accused stole Rs 12500/- in cash, jewellery worth Rs 15000/- and two mobile handsets and fled from the scene.

Police said that the accused are part of a gang of criminals who were earlier arrested along with a 9 mm pistol with 4 (four) rounds of ammunitions on February 9, 2014 by Dimapur police for hijacking a Manipur bound truck and abducting the driver and handyman for ransom. The gang was also involved in the abduction and murder of an Auto rickshaw driver, whose body was recovered on February 7 from Khughovi village under Niuland Sub-division. The gang is further suspected to be involved in a number of other crimes in Dimapur, informed police.
