KOHIMA (MExN): Taking into account the framing of the “Vision Northeast region 2020 with special reference to Nagaland, Governor Shyamal Datta today categorically asserted that the vision should be realistic with the objective to create peace and prosperity.

For this Datta formulated three dimensions- social, economic and political, which he said should be taken into account while framing the “Vision North East region 2020 with special reference to Nagaland.”

Addressing a 2 day seminar “Vision North East region 2020 with special reference to Nagaland “ here, Datta maintained that the north eastern states and Nagaland in particular possessed distinct socio-economic life and felt that the intellectuals should apply their minds to understand the social life and include it prominently in the action plan.

He also said that quality of governance and leaders was essential to translate the action plan into reality. He also wanted that the quality of system and structure are placed in position.

Stressing the need to utilize the resources in the efficient manner for the progress and development of the state, Datta, however, regretted that effective utilization is yet to be seen although there were plenty of resources.

“Efforts should also be made to have support system in the action plan and to attain self sufficiency in certain areas”, Datta added.

Referring to globalization, the Governor regretted that the State was making delay in the globalization process. “We are losing opportunity”, he said and stressed on the need to make the present efforts more efficient to face the challenges and become a partner in the global economy.

Touching on youth empowerment, Datta pointed out that it was time for them not to expect the government to provide jobs to them but to do something on their own. He felt that the positive role played by youths would determine the future stability of society.

“While also framing the vision documents, it must ensure that the weaknesses are strengthened and the past are properly examined and corrected. The vision documents should be given proper shape, ‘Not too high or too light’, he said.

Dr. RP Shukla in his key note address said that the seminar, being held under the aegis of the Nagaland University in association with the North Eastern Council was to draw some planning and policies to bring congenial atmosphere for the future generation.

“This is a historic meeting of experts from university, colleges, schools, NGO’s and government organizations to come together on a common platform to discuss and deliberate upon the Vision 2020 for Nagaland,” said Prof. GD Sharma, vice chancellor Nagaland University.

Prof. Sharma declared that the vision 2020 for Nagaland University would be quality education for all Naga youth by 2020 and develop a globally competitive Naga youth.
