Wokha, November 28 (MExN): The second general body meeting of the District Anglers Wokha Nagaland (DAWN) cum angling competition was held at the Etlingera Patch, Doyang Wokha on November 28.

C Hachio Patton, senior Personal Secretary to Deputy CM and Advisor DAWN released the constitution of DAWN during the meeting and later handed over the first prize which was bagged by Aphamo Khuvung.

During the general body meeting, KN Mhonthung Lotha, President of DAWN recalled that a few angling enthusiast in the early part of 2017 gathered to form the organization with an aim and objective to promote tourism and aqua tourism through angling, and promote angling as a recreational sport.

He also highlighted the achievement of DAWN, where the association with the help of 21 villages across the Doyang area came to resolve on October 21, 2018 to ban the use of dynamite fishing.

Mhonbemo Ngullie, Vice President, Anglers Association Nagaland aid that Wokha needs to promote aqua conservation and encouraged identification of more places where angling competitions and activities can be hosted. He told the members to inculcate the idea of conservation by having a sense of responsibility and releasing endangered fish species like Mahaseer.
In the meeting, the general body reaffirmed to discourage the practice of dynamite fishing and pouring chemicals in the river bodies.
