Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) today assured people that there is sufficient stock of essential commodities and urged them not to panic.
“There is sufficient stock of essential commodities to last for more than three months,” a DCCI press release stated, requesting the public not to resort to unnecessary buying and crowding the markets.
Taking note of the directives issued by the State Government, DCCI meanwhile directed all shops dealing with non-essential items to close down. These include shopping malls, cinema halls, marketing complexes and shops dealing with non-essential items.
Only shops dealing in essential commodities like medicine, groceries, vegetables and fruits, petrol pumps and dine-in kitchens providing only take away services are exempt from the closure. However, the exempted category have to strictly ensure the directives of the administration are adhered to, it said.
In this connection, the DCCI directed the exempted establishments to keep hand sanitizers and water and soap in a prominent place for easy access of shoppers, preferably in front of their shops. Workers in these establishments have also been directed to wear masks while dealing with the customers.
Further, the DCCI warned those exempted category of establishments to strictly adhere to this order failing which ‘severe action’ will be initiated. It also requested families shopping for essentials to limit themselves to just one person to maintain social distance in the market.
Additionally, the DCCI appealed to the citizens not to fall for rumors and unverified information but instead keep oneself and family updated only through official statements. It urged the business community and citizens that “being responsible and giving full cooperation to the dos and don’ts will determine our fight against Covid-19.”
The MCCI also notified closure of all establishments except pharmacies, fuel refill stations and grocery stores selling food grains, food items, vegetables, bakeries and confectioneries, daily use items and other essential commodities.
All traders of Mokokchung district have also been directed to comply with the directives of the state government in respect of the COVID-19 pandemic countermeasures and refrain from engaging in unethical business practices. The MCCI also advised traders to avoid travelling out of the state for the time being and adopt hygienic practices while handling banknotes/cash as they are also suspected to be potential carriers of the virus.
MCCI officials will be monitoring the market and any trader found engaging in unethical business practices taking advantage of the situation shall be dealt with befittingly.
