District Child Protection Officers takes pledge on ‘Jan Andolan Campaign’ to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Kohima, November 2 (MExN): One-day training for the District Child Protection Officers (DCPOs) on implementation of Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse Act (POCSO) 2012 was organized by the State Child Protection Society, Child Protection Services, Department of Social Welfare, Nagaland at Hotel Ura, Kohima on November 2.
According to a press note issued by the Child Protection Services Nagaland, DCPOs from 11 districts participated in the training. It started with the pledge on ‘Jan Andolan Campaign’ to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The DCPOs play an important part in coordinating and supervising the implementation of the ICPS and all other child protection activities at the district level including monitoring and supervision of all child care institutions, projects and programs. Therefore, the training was organized with the objective to enhance the knowledge of the participants about the various provisions in the POCSO Act, 2012 to be implemented at the district level.
POCSO Act which was enacted in 2012 is a comprehensive law to provide for the protection of children from the offenses of sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography, while safeguarding the interests of the child at every stage of the judicial process by incorporating child-friendly mechanisms for reporting, recording of evidence, investigation, and speedy trial of offenses through designated Special Courts.
The Act was notified on November 11, 2016 in Nagaland and thereby, Nagaland Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules 2017 was framed and notified in the year February 10, 2020.
